Morrisseau Inspects 'Fake' Morrisseaus

Norval Morrisseau is pictured together with Society members of the Norval Morrisseau Heritage Society (NMHS) inspecting "fake" Morrisseaus in 2005. Over several years leading up to the creation of the NMHS, Norval Morrisseau became increasingly concerned over the dishonour to his reputation and the profiteering by those who participate in the distribution of purported Morrisseau works. Among the paintings are various works donated to the NMHS by KRG to be used for ongoing analysis during the course of the continuing investigation. In a press release from 2007, Norval Morrisseau named the NMHS as the single authority to create a catalogue raisonnĂ©—a comprehensive research database—which will document his works in order to preserve the artist's legacy. Submissions may be sent to NMHS.

  1. A changing of the guard brings several new faces to the NMHS Board as they move forward to preserve the legacy of Norval Morrisseau.
